What is Super Beta Prostate P3 & Does It Really Work?

Health Senior Wellness

As men get older, they have an increased risk of developing an enlarged prostate and/or prostate cancer.

The prostate is a gland located just under the urinary bladder. The urethra, which carries urine from the bladder out through the penis passed through the prostate gland. The main function of the prostate gland is to produce fluid that carries and protects sperm during ejaculation.

In many men, the prostate will enlarge as they get older. The exact causes of enlarged prostates are not specifically known, but it has been known that men who had their testicles removed when younger, say due to injury or cancer, do not develop enlarged prostates, a condition formally known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Currently, there is no known connection between having BPH and having an increased risk of developing prostate cancer.

When a prostate gland enlarges, it can restrict or even cut off the flow of urine, which can be very painful and serious. It is estimated that a small percentage of men have developed some prostate enlargement by the time they reach 40, but over 90% of men over the age of 80 have an enlarged prostate.

I recall some years back when my dad, who never cried wolf, complained or wanted to go to a doctor or hospital, woke my mom in the middle of the night and told her to take him to the emergency room. She thought it was his heart, but he told her that he hadn’t been able to urinate for 3 days and that he was intense pain.

It turned out he had an enlarged prostate which was treated, through what my dad described as the worst reaming of his life.

As for prostate cancer, that is the second most common form of cancer in men, behind skin cancer. The American Cancer Society says that around 174,650 new cases of prostate cancer reported every year, although the death rate from prostate cancer is relatively low with just 31,620 deaths a year.

The ACS also reports that 1 in every 9 men will develop prostate cancer. About 60% of the cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed in men aged 65 and older.

Is there anything men can take to help improve the health of their prostate gland?

Some sources say that saw palmetto, a supplement taken in capsule form, helps with prostate health. That’s what I take on a daily basis.

Currently, there are a number of advertisements promoting some form of Super Beta Prostate P3 t help with prostate health.

According to the official website Super Beta Prostate P3 Advanced:

  • Decrease Frequent Urges to Urinate
  • Reduce Waking at Night to Urinate
  • Promotes Better Bladder Emptying
  • May Help Support a Healthy Prostate Size

How it Works:

“The cornerstone of P3 Advanced is our amazing ProstaFend blend, which includes 600 mg of naturally-based mixed plant sterols. Within these plant sterols you’ll find 250 mg of beta-sitosterol: a plant compound found in virtually every vegetable (in relatively low amounts).”

“Beta-sitosterol has been found in multiple double-blind clinical trials to support prostate health and reduce urinary issues. In a published meta-analysis, men who took beta-sitosterol experienced stronger urine flow and less frequent urges to use the bathroom.”

“The ProstaFend blend also includes two more key ingredients: reishi mushroom extract and lycopene. Reishi mushroom extract helps support reduced urges to urinate and supports healthy prostate function. Lycopene – a carotenoid found in tomatoes – is a popular ingredient for prostate health… but many other prostate supplements don’t include enough of this precious ingredient. P3 Advanced has 15 mg of a special form of lycopene, which preliminary research suggests may help support healthy prostate size.”

But, does Super Beta Prostate P3 really work? According to one source:

“The company holds an A- rating with the Better Business Bureau, with more than 230 closed complaints over the past three years, most of which appear to be related to difficulty un-enrolling from the autoship program. Regarding Super Beta Prostate specifically, online customer reviews appear to be mixed, with the most common complaints citing failure to work and high price.” [emphasis mine]

According to WebMD:

The best-studied, most commonly used supplements to treat BPH are:

  • Beta-sitosterol
  • Pygeum
  • Rye grass
  • Saw palmetto

YOU MIGHT LIKE

Beta-sitosterol: This is a substance found in many plants. It doesn’t affect the size of the prostate, but it may help your bladder empty and give you a stronger urine flow. It may improve other BPH symptoms as well.

Studies with Harzol and Azuprostat, two supplements that contain beta-sitosterol from South African stargrass, have shown particular promise.

Pygeum: This comes from the bark of the African plum tree. It seems to help some men with BPH wake up less at night to pee, go fewer times during the day, have a stronger urine stream, and empty their bladders better.

Rye pollen extract: This substance may improve a number of BPH symptoms, such as:

  • Dribbling after you finish peeing
  • Having to pee often throughout the day
  • Painful urination
  • Weak urine stream
  • Urgent need to pee

Some research shows that it may also shrink the prostate, give you a better flow, and help you empty your bladder.

Saw palmetto: This is a short tree that grows in North America. Some small studies have shown a benefit. However, several large studies do not show that saw palmetto reduces the size of the prostate or eases urinary symptoms. Men may try it hoping to relieve common BPH symptoms such as:

  • You have a hard time getting pee to start
  • You must go often throughout the day
  • A weak stream
  • An urgent need to urinate

It may also help with waking up at night to go to the bathroom and feeling like you still have to pee after you just went.

For men who’ve had success with saw palmetto, it takes about 4 to 6 weeks to see results.

Additionally, WebMD says that in some cases, pumpkin seeds or pumpkin seed oil extract has been found to shrink the size of the prostate and may be more helpful when combined with saw palmetto. They also report that some cases have been reported where stinging nettle, an herb, helps with urine flow and waking a lot at night to pee.

Concerning the heavily advertised Super Beta Prostate P3, it’s up to you to decide, but be warned that some of the most common complaints is that it doesn’t work and it costs a lot, especially the product sold from the official website.
